15s Team Coaches

As we enter our 8th season this coming spring and summer, the SW Minnesota Stars Directors is excited to welcome father son coaching combination in Bruce and Austin Saugstad to our staff this year.  Having an excellent coaching staff that enjoys developing players along with building solid relationships with players in our program built on integrity and trust is at the core of why we exist.

Austin Saugstad will be joining our staff this year as a 15s Team coach.  Austin, 2013 Marshall High school graduate, was a role player as a freshman guard for Augustana College.  Austin had a great high school career as a Marshall Tiger.  Austin was known for his secure ball handling and defensive pressure.  His leadership and basketball skills helped propel the Marshall Tigers to a third place finish in State of Minnesota in Class AAA.  Austin was a four year letter winner in basketball at Marshall High school and also a four year member of SW MN Stars program.  Austin states, “I am excited to be part of Stars again after being part of it as a player.  I am looking forward to great season in coaching a talented group of players.” Austin knows high school athletics well as he was part of basketball, football, and baseball teams at Marshall High School.

Bruce Saugstad, currently leads a team of people responsible for Industrial Sales division for Schwans foods, will be returning to SW MN Stars family after being involved as a parent of Austin for four years.  Bruce has been married to Linda since 1990.  They have three wonderful children, son Austin is a freshman at Augustana College, daughter Morgan is a junior at Marshall High School, and daughter Lexi is a sophomore at Marshall High School.  All three children are basketball players, so Bruce & Linda spend a lot of time in a gym and they love it.  Bruce has coached a variety of youth and summer AAU teams over the years. Bruce states, “Austin and I are excited about joining the coaching staff for the Stars.  Through Austin’s participation in the program, we saw first-hand how the coaching staff encouraged the players to be the best they could be; on and off the court.  We look forward to getting to know the current players and working with them to maximize their God-given abilities.”  Bruce brings a great deal of experience, parenting perspective, and enthusiasm to the game of basketball and our program.

We are very excited to have Bruce and Austin join the SW Minnesota Stars Coaching Staff.  They will bring energy and great teamwork in working as a father – son coaching combination.  We know these guys quite well and can say with confidence they will do a great job in contributing to the mission of our basketball program and truly care about young men in the game of life.  Without having quality men who are also coaches, we would not be able to meet our goals of having a positive impact on our players through the game of basketball.
